SUSTAINABILITY Lawson Group Procurement Policy

The global environment is facing major problems, such as abnormal weather, depletion of natural resources, and a crisis in biodiversity. In addition, human rights issues for laborers and other obstacles that hinder the sustainable development of society are becoming more and more apparent. In order to help create a sustainable society, we have established the Lawson Group Procurement Policy based on the Lawson Group Purchasing Policy with the aim of building a supply chain that always takes into consideration the natural environment and local communities. To achieve this goal, we will work together with our suppliers and other stakeholders to procure products in accordance with the following policy.

  • 1. In consideration of the preservation of biodiversity, we will eliminate the illegal trade, extraction, and fishing of natural resources, and will support and cooperate with efforts to restore them.
  • 2. In consideration of environmental issues such as climate change and natural resources that are in danger of being depleted, we will strive to develop products and produce materials and equipment with the following in mind:
    • Reduction of energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions
    • Proper disposal and reduction of waste and prevention of pollution
    • Efficient use of water resources and appropriate wastewater management
  • 3. We will strive to provide safe, secure, and healthy meals to our customers by improving traceability down to the sourcing of our raw materials, and disclosing information in an easy-to-understand manner.
  • 4. We will strive to give consideration to human rights throughout the supply chain, respecting the diversity, personality, and individuality of workers and promoting worker protection, including the prohibition of such practices as child labor and forced labor, as well as the elimination of discrimination.
  • 5. We will support and actively cooperate with efforts by producers and companies that give consideration to animal welfare*.
  • 6. We will conduct business with suppliers in a fair and equitable manner.
  • 7. We will comply with the laws and regulations of the countries and regions in which we operate, relevant international rules, social norms, and our own rules when producing, processing, and delivering products, materials, supplies, and other raw materials.

* Animal welfare refers to the concept of considering livestock as sensitive creatures, and giving consideration to the way they are raised so that they can lead healthy lives with their behavioral needs met in a comfortable environment from birth to death.
