SUSTAINABILITY Participation in Initiatives

Lawson believes that coexistence with a variety of stakeholders is essential for creating a sustainable society for the future and achieving happiness in the community. Therefore, we participate in a variety of initiatives to promote sustainable business activities in collaboration with various stakeholders.

Japan Business Federation (Keidanren)

Japan Franchise Association (JFA)

Lawson participate in the convenience store industry's Carbon Neutral Action Plan (FY2030) and promote measures to achieve and reduce the targets outlined in the plan.

UN Global Compact

Lawson signed the United Nations Global Compact in May 2022. By supporting and practicing the ten principles in the four areas of human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption, we will contribute to the development of a sustainable society.

TCFD

Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD)

In April 2020, Lawson endorsed the TCFD (Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosure). In order to respond to the intensifying issue of climate change, we will analyze climate-related risks and opportunities, understand the impact on our business strategies, consider countermeasures, and proactively disclose information.

SBT Initiative

In order to accelerate its efforts to combat climate change, in June 2022, Lawson submitted a letter of commitment to the SBT Initiative*, an accreditation organization, in the hope of acquiring certification which shows that the Lawson Group's greenhouse gas reduction targets are in line with the Paris Agreement. We will further promote climate change measures with the aim of obtaining SBT accreditation within two years.

* SBT: Science Based Targets. These are greenhouse gas emission reduction targets set by companies that are consistent with the levels required by the Paris Agreement. Targets must be set 5 to 10 years ahead, with an aim of reducing emissions by 4.2% or more per year.
The SBT Initiative:An international initiative jointly established by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the CDP, an international NGO working on environmental issues, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC).

Japan Climate Leaders’ Partnership (JCLP)

The Japan Climate Leaders’ Partnership (JCLP) is a unique Japanese business group that was established in 2009 upon the recognition that industries must develop a healthy sense of urgency and initiate proactive actions to realize a sustainable, decarbonized society. As of August 17, 2023, 246 companies are participating, with total sales of member companies amounting to approximately 148 trillion yen and total electricity consumption amounting to approximately 74 TWh (reference/approximate value including amount outside Japan). By leading the transition to a decarbonized society, member companies are aiming to become companies sought after by society.
Lawson joined as a supporting member on August 16 , 2023. By actively participating in the transition to a decarbonized society, we will strive to become a company sought after by society.

TCFD

Eat & Fun Health Association

The Eat & Fun Health Association aims to make the concept of having fun eating delicious food a reality based on scientific evidence. Lawson supports the efforts of the association and is focusing on the development of products that contain the right amount of sugar.
