The sales result of Lawson, Inc. in October is as follows*1. Total sales at all stores in October amounted to 220,876 million yen, a 2.3% up year on year, and average daily sales per store (all stores) totaled 521 thousand yen*2. Although the consumption tax rate has been raised from this month, existing-store sales (excluding ticket and gift card sales etc.) were 0.3% year on year over the same period and the average number of customers per store fell 2.8% and the average customer spend rose 3.3% year on year.

Below is a breakdown of the existing-store sales performance by individual merchandise categories.

Sales of bread (sandwiches etc.) category increased thanks to a renewal of staple items last month and favorable sales of new product series.

Thanks to new launches of Uchi Café original desserts including new series “CUPKE (cake in a cup) “, sales of dessert category increased drastically year on year.

Bakery category sales increased year on year, mainly due to sales increases of new products and a renewal of basic items.

Sales of chilled drink category increased year on year thanks to favorable sales of Lawson’s Uchi Café drinks.

Ice cream category’s sales increased year on year due to increased sales of new seasonal flavor ice cream with Uchi Café brand.

As a result of our continuous initiatives to expand product lineups, sales of daily delivered food and frozen food items increased year on year.

Cigarette sales accounted for 1.0% or more increase year on year of existing-store sales growth in October.

The Lawson Group operated 14,667 convenience stores in Japan at the end of October 2019, including 143 NATURAL LAWSON stores and 774 LAWSON STORE 100 stores.

Regarding LAWSON STORE 100, existing-store sales fell 1.0% year on year in October (customer numbers: -5.8%; customer spend: +5.1%).

The existing LAWSON stores' sales in Japan (LAWSON and NATURAL LAWSON)*1 in October increased 0.4% year on year.

Lawson is promoting a campaign of collecting stamps upon purchase until December 16, 2019 to help broaden its customer base.

Lawson donated a part of the profit from the 10th anniversary sale of Uchi Café Sweets on October 18, through the local governments as part of the disaster support of Typhoon No.19.

On October 29, Lawson started an experiment of “e-shipping service”, a service that ships products sold on auction sites provided by Japan Post Co., Ltd., using existing SUMARI facility at 17 LAWSON stores in Tokyo and Kanagawa prefecture.

As a result of the increase in the consumption tax rate on October 1, 2% of the payment amount will be paid as a subsidy program implemented by the government, to customers who purchase cashless payments at LAWSON stores.

The LAWSON operation in Japan consists of sales generated by LAWSON, Inc. excluding sales of LAWSON STORE100 stores.
