Total sales at all stores in October 2012 amounted to 172,054 million yen, 104.0% of the same period last year. Consolidated net sales of existing stores were 98.3% of the same period last year.  Average daily sales per store (all stores) amounted to 537 thousand yen. The average number of customer per store (existing stores) was 913, 98.1% of the same period last year. The average spending per customer (existing stores) was 566 yen, 100.2% of the same period last year.

Existing store sales fell short of the amount of sales in October 2011, mainly due to the decline of the number of customers who purchased cigarettes, and waning consumer sentiment. In response to this sluggish market trend, the company has further emphasized expansion of customer base by increasing housewives and senior customers and enhanced product development.

Existing stores sales by merchandise category were as follows.

Sales of the noodles category exceeded the previous year’s amount, driven by our original pasta series, Pasta-ya which included the grilled Lasagna Bolognese.

Sales of the delicatessen and over-the-counter fast food categories exceeded the previous year’s amount. In particular, those categories recorded a significant year-on-year growth, thanks to favorable sales of the local delicatessen series including fried oysters.

Sales of private brand "Lawson select," which included prepared food, daily necessities and beverages, continued to be robust.

The perishable food category also continued to experience significant sales growth after we introduced more perishable food items such as packages of “freshly cut vegetables” in the regular LAWSON stores, in addition to the continued efforts to enhance the fresh food-type LAWSON stores. On October 30, the company announced to “make all of the LAWSON stores with perishable food” and to further promote handling of perishable food with the introduction of frozen meat.

Sales of cigarettes were again below the amount of a year ago but have gradually recovered from the bottom of the sharp decline on year-on-year basis.

As of October 31, 2012, the Lawson Group had 11,020 stores in Japan, including 110 NATURAL LAWSON stores and 1,199 LAWSON STORE100 stores.

Existing store sales of Ninety-nine Plus, Inc. amounted to 96.0% of same period last year (number of customers: 95.5%; spending per customer: 100.6%). In October, Ninety-nine Plus, Inc. opened 4 stores and closed 2 stores.
