Total sales at all stores in July 2012 amounted to 180,161 million yen, 103.0% of the same period last year. Consolidated net sales of existing stores were 97.1% of the same period last year. Average daily sales per store (all stores) amounted to 571 thousand yen. The average number of customer per store (existing stores) was 951, 96.6% of the same period last year. The average spending per customer (existing stores) was 580 yen, 100.4% of the same period last year.
Consolidated net sales of existing stores decreased year on year due to unfavorable weather conditions, such as a heavy precipitation in Kyushu area and low temperature in the Pacific coast of north-eatern Japan, as opposed to a very hot summer last year.
Existing stores sales by merchandise category were as follows.
Continuing from the previous month, sales of over-the-counter fast food and delicatessen exceeded 100% of the same month last year. In particular, we saw significant sales growth of over-the-counter fast food as compared to last year as a result of our continuous efforts to enhance prepared food items.
Sales of private brand "Lawson select," which includes prepared food, daily necessities and beverages, continued to be robust.
In perishable food category, enhancement of the fresh food-type LAWSON stores contributed to a substantial increase in sales.
Sales of cigarettes declined year on year for the second month in a row. Sales of cigarettes of the same period last year is gradually recovering from last month. We expect our cigarette sales to gradually recover going forward.
As of July 31, 2012, the Lawson Group had 10,847 stores in Japan, including 101 NATURAL LAWSON stores and 1,188 LAWSON STORE 100 stores.
Existing store sales of Ninety-nine Plus, Inc. amounted to 95.5% of same period last year (number of customers: 94.5%; sales per customer: 101.1%). In July, Ninety-nine Plus, Inc. opened 7 stores and closed 1 store.
