The sales result of Lawson, Inc. in June is as follows*1. Total sales at all stores in June amounted to 205,762 million yen, a 9.9% down year on year, and average daily sales per store (all stores) totaled 497 thousand yen*2.
Existing-store sales (excluding ticket and gift card sales etc.) decreased 5.8% year on year over the same period and the average number of customers per store fell 14.4 % and the average customer spend rose 10.0% year on year.

In Jun., restricts on social activities, such as moving out of the prefecture and holding events, were relaxed to prevent the spread of the COVID-19. As a result, there were signs of a recovery in customer visits, although the situation varied depending on store locations and other factors.

Below is a breakdown of the existing-store sales performance by individual merchandise categories.

Sales in the dessert category increased significantly year on year as a result of the favorable reception of the new-style sweets that we are continuously developing and two collaboration products of “Uchi Café x Godiva” released on June 16. Sales of products such as frozen foods and daily foods, which saw increased sales due to increased demand for congestion, continued to be strong in Jun., and exceeded the previous year's level. In addition, sales of fresh foods, which expanding our product lineup mainly in residential areas, and Chuhai (a shochu-based beverage), which is in demand for home drinking, increased significantly year on year. Sales of paper and sanitary products increased significantly year on year, reflecting progress in the development of a supply system for masks and sanitary products, which had been in short supply. Cigarette sales accounted for approximately 1.0 point decrease year on year of existing-store sales growth in June.

The Lawson Group operated 14,485 convenience stores in Japan at the end of June 2020, including 148 NATURAL LAWSON stores and 691 LAWSON STORE 100 stores. The existing LAWSON stores' sales in Japan (LAWSON and NATURAL LAWSON)*1 decreased 6.2% year on year.

Regarding LAWSON STORE 100, sales of daily foods, frozen foods, desserts, alcoholic beverages exceeded the previous year, with sales increase of existing-stores in June totaling 0.4% (customer numbers: -9.1%; customer spend: +10.4%). This is because of people’s high awareness of lifestyle protection and increased demand continuingly as an alternative to the supermarket.

In the Entertainment-related Business, we offer live viewing tickets for famous artists as well as tickets for reopened recreation facilities and concerts. In addition, United Cinemas Co., Ltd.'s movie theaters, which had temporarily closed down, resumed full-theater businesses on Jun. 1.

As an initiative to expand our customer base and provide enjoyment to customers, we started collecting stamps and smartphone lottery campaigns of popular characters from June, and which were well received.

In order to achieve Merchandise assortment that meet the needs of customers, in collaboration with RYOHIN KEIKAKU CO., LTD., we began trial sales of approximately 500 MUJI-brand Merchandise inventories at 3 LAWSON stores in Tokyo for a limited period.
