The sales result of Lawson, Inc. in December is as follows*1. Total sales at all stores in December amounted to 228,468 million yen, a 0.7% up year on year, and average daily sales per store (all stores) totaled 540 thousand yen*2. Existing-store sales (excluding ticket and gift card sales etc.) decreased 0.7% year on year over the same period and the average number of customers per store fell 1.3% and the average customer spend rose 0.6% year on year.

Below is a breakdown of the existing-store sales performance by individual merchandise categories.

Sales of bread (sandwiches etc.) category extremely increased thanks to a renewal of certain items such as cheese burgers.

Thanks to favorable sales of Uchi Café x GODIVA collaborated desserts as well as “CUPKE (cake in a cup) “series, sales of dessert category increased drastically year on year.

Bakery category sales increased year on year, mainly due to sales increases of meal bread.

Sales of chilled drink category increased year on year because of favorable sales of Lawson’s original drink products.

As a result of our continuous initiatives to expand product lineups, sales of daily delivered food and frozen food items extremely increased year on year.

Cigarette sales were almost flat in December as the impact of last year's price increases after cigarette tax hike has come to an end.

The Lawson Group operated 14,600 convenience stores in Japan at the end of December 2019, including 145 NATURAL LAWSON stores and 764 LAWSON STORE 100 stores.

Regarding LAWSON STORE 100, existing-store sales fell 1.7% year on year in December (customer numbers: -3.7%; customer spend: +2.1%).

The existing LAWSON stores' sales in Japan (LAWSON and NATURAL LAWSON)*1 in December decreased 0.7% year on year.

Lawson is promoting a campaign of collecting stamps upon purchase until March 2, 2020 to help broaden its customer base.

On December 16, 2019, KDDI Corporation and Lawson, Inc. executed a capital business partnership to promote data marketing utilizing the customer bases of both companies and create new consumption experiences through the application of advanced technologies.

Lawson conducted a trial closure on New Year’s Day at 102 franchise stores in 25 prefectures nationwide.

Note 1: Lawson, Inc. sales include sales generated by LAWSON stores (excluding Lawson Okinawa, Inc., Lawson Minami-Kyusyu, Inc., Lawson Kochi, Inc., and Lawson Sanin, Inc.), NATURAL LAWSON stores, and LAWSON STORE100 stores. The LAWSON operation in Japan consists of sales generated by LAWSON, Inc. excluding sales of LAWSON STORE100 stores.
