The sales result of Lawson, Inc. in June is as follows*1. Total sales at all stores in June amounted to 217,963 million yen, an 8.8% up year on year. Existing-store sales rose 1.3% year on year over the same period and average daily sales per store (all stores) totaled 546 thousand yen. The average number of customers per store (existing stores) fell 3.2% and the average customer spend at existing stores rose 4.7%*2 .
In June, the ticket sales including concerts, sporting events, etc., and gift card sales accounted for 3.0 point or more increase year on year of existing-store sales. Except for these effects, existing-store sales fell 1.9% compared with the previous year.
Below is a breakdown of the existing-store sales performance by individual merchandise categories.
Thanks to sales increases of “Onigiri-ya” rice balls and boxed meals series rich in vegetables, sales of rice products category increased dramatically year on year.
Sales of noodle category increased year on year, thanks to favorable sales of cold noodles because of the high temperature on average in June and noodles series rich in vegetables.
Sales of ice cream category performed well due to sales promotions.
As a result of successful outcome from our initiatives such as to expand product offering in this category, sales of daily delivered food and frozen food items increased year on year.
Cigarette sales accounted for 0.5 point or more decrease year on year of existing-store sales in June.
The Lawson Group operated 14,244 convenience stores in Japan at the end of June 2018, including 141 NATURAL LAWSON stores and 805 LAWSON STORE100 stores.
Regarding LAWSON STORE 100, existing-store sales fell 2.6% year on year in June (customer numbers:
-5.3%; customer spend: +2.8%). In June, we opened 1 stores and close 1 stores.
The existing LAWSON stores’ sales in Japan (LAWSON and NATURAL LAWSON)*1 in June increased 1.6% year on year.
From March 6, 2018, “GOCHISO-LAWSON (Enjoy meals from Lawson)” products, including such daily products as boxed meals, rice balls, prepared foods, salads, and soup, have been available at each Lawson store.
Lawson is promoting ”Snoopy Summer Campaign” until September 24, 2018 to help broaden its customer base.
Lawson plans to announce its earnings results for 1Q of FY2018 on Thursday, July 11, 2018. Summary of financial results and supplementary information will be posted on this website.
