The sales result of Lawson, Inc. in November is as follows. Total sales at all stores in November amounted to 179,334 million yen, a 4.0% up year on year. Existing-store sales fell 1.6% year on year over the same period. Average daily sales per store (all stores) totaled 510 thousand yen, while the average number of customers per store (existing stores) fell 1.6% to 801, and the average customer spend at existing stores fell 0.1% to 596 yen. The existing LAWSON stores’ sales in Japan*1 in November fell 1.6% year on year.

In November, the ticket sales including concerts, sporting events, etc., accounted for approximately 2.0 point decrease year on year of existing-store sales. Except for this effect, existing-store sales were almost flat compared with the previous year.

Below is a breakdown of the existing-store sales performance by individual merchandise categories.

Sales of rice products category increased year on year, mainly due to sales increases of renewed “Onigiri-ya” rice balls and the popular meal box of hamburger steak.

Sales of noodle category increased year on year, mainly due to favorable sales of pasta and hot noodles.

Over-the-counter fast food sales increased year on year in November, thanks to continuing better sales of “Deka-yakitori” (mega grilled chicken) and “L Chiki” (deep fried chicken). Continued low temperature helped sales increases of winter dishes such as “Chinese steamed buns” and ”Oden” (Japanese soup dish with various vegetable and dumplings).

Sales of dessert category performed well thanks to preferable sales of “Uchi Café SWEETS x GODIVA” dessert series. On November 24, Lawson has launched “Uchi Café SWEETS×GODIVA chocolat cookie sand” and “Uchi Café SWEETS×GODIVA rich chocolat cake” as the 5th collaboration products between Lawson and GODIVA.

As a result of successful outcome from our initiatives such as to expand product offering in this category, sales of daily delivered food and frozen food items increased year on year.

Sales of ice cream category rose year on year in November, thanks to favorable sales of seasonal new item as well as high-end item.

Cigarette sales increased due to favorable results of electronic cigarette and its related items, which accounted for approximately 0.5% increase year on year of existing-store sales growth in November.

The Lawson Group operated 13,693 convenience stores in Japan at the end of November 2017, including 144 NATURAL LAWSON stores and 798 LAWSON STORE100 stores.

Regarding LAWSON STORE 100, existing-store sales fell 2.2% year on year in November (customer numbers:
-3.0%; customer spend: +0.8%). In November, we opened 3 stores and did not close any store.
