The sales result of Lawson, Inc. in October is as follows. Total sales at all stores in October amounted to 191,154 million yen, a 5.3% up year on year. Existing-store sales fell 4.0% year on year over the same period. Average daily sales per store (all stores) totaled 533 thousand yen, while the average number of customers per store (existing stores) fell 5.0% to 816, and the average customer spend at existing stores rose 1.2% to 608 yen. The existing LAWSON stores’ sales in Japan*1 in October fell 3.8% year on year.

In October, although the average customer spend increased compared with the previous year, existing-store sales decreased year on year because the average number of customers per store suffered a negative effect of the bad weather. In addition, the ticket sales including concerts, sporting events, etc., accounted for approximately 2.0 point decrease year on year of existing-store sales. The cloudy and rainy weather throughout the month and two typhoons in the 2nd half of the month severely affected the number of customers per store.

Below is a breakdown of the existing-store sales performance by individual merchandise categories.

Sales of noodle category increased drastically year on year, mainly due to favorable sales of pasta and hot noodles.

As a result of successful outcome from our initiatives such as to expand product offering in this category, sales of daily delivered food and frozen food items increased year on year.

Cigarette sales increased due to favorable results of electronic cigarette and its related items, which accounted for approximately 0.5% increase year on year of existing-store sales growth in October.

The Lawson Group operated 13,587 convenience stores in Japan at the end of October 2017, including 144 NATURAL LAWSON stores and 795 LAWSON STORE100 stores.

Regarding LAWSON STORE 100, existing-store sales fell 6.5% year on year in October (customer numbers:
-9.7%; customer spend: +3.6%). In October, we opened 3 stores and closed 1 store.

Lawson is promoting the “Rilakkuma Autumn Campaign” until December 11, 2017 to help broaden its customer base.

From October 31st, Lawson has launched “Uchi Café SWEETS×GODIVA caramel chocolat roll cake” as the 4th collaboration products between Lawson and GODIVA.
