The sales result of Lawson, Inc. is as follows. Total sales at all stores in August amounted to 194,836 million yen, a 4.7% up year on year. Existing-store sales rose 0.7 % over the same period. Average daily sales per store (all stores) totaled 569 thousand yen, while the average number of customers per store (existing stores) fell 0.4% to 882, and the average customer spend at existing stores rose 1.0% to 600 yen. The existing LAWSON stores’ sales in Japan*1 rose 0.8% in August.
Below is a breakdown of the existing-store sales performance by individual merchandise categories.
Thanks to special promotion, sandwich category performed extremely well in August.
Sales of delicatessen items, daily delivered food and frozen food items, which include our Lawson Select series, rose considerably year on year, due to discount sales. We have conducted fixture investments and expanded product offering, and those initiatives contributed to this category sales as well.
Sales from our ice cream category rose strongly year on year in August, thanks to special sales promotion.
Good sales of NATURAL LAWSON brand’s cup beverages gave a boost to year-on-year sales of chilled beverage category.
Sales of soft drinks saw sales rise year on year in August, due to a promotion for Ponta members.
Cigarette sales have almost no impact for existing-store sales growth in August.
The Lawson Group operated 12,606 convenience stores in Japan at the end of August 2016, including 138 NATURAL LAWSON stores and 799 LAWSON STORE100 stores.
Regarding LAWSON STORE 100, existing-store sales fell 0.8% year on year in August (customer numbers:
-2.1%; customer spend: +1.3%). In August, we opened 1 store and closed no store.
Lawson is promoting the “Snoopy Campaign” until September 19, 2016 to help broaden its customer base.
