The sales result of Lawson, Inc. is as follows. Total sales at all stores in April amounted to 173,429 million yen, a 4.2% up year on year. Existing-store sales rose 1.7% over the same period. Average daily sales per store (all stores) totaled 531 thousand yen, while the average number of customers per store (existing stores) rose 0.6% to 833, and the average customer spend at existing stores rose 1.0% to 593 yen. The existing LAWSON stores’ sales in Japan*1 rose 1.5% in April.
Below is a breakdown of the existing-store sales performance by individual merchandise categories.
Over-the-counter fast food sales exceeded year on year in April due to continuing strong sales of donuts and MACHI Café and thanks to special sales promotion and new flavor of ‘’Karaage-kun” in commemoration of the 30th anniversary.
Sales of delicatessen items, daily delivered food and frozen food items, which include our Lawson Select series, rose considerably year on year, with discount sales and TV advertisement.
Good sales of NATURAL LAWSON brand’s cup beverages gave a considerable boost to year-on-year sales of chilled beverage category.
Sales of soft drinks exceeded year on year in April, due to the warm weather and thanks to special promotion including TV advertisement.
Cigarette sales had almost no impact on existing-store sales in April.
The Lawson Group operated 12,437 convenience stores in Japan at the end of April 2016, including 134 NATURAL LAWSON stores and 800 LAWSON STORE100 stores.
Regarding LAWSON STORE 100, existing-store sales rose 3.2% year on year in April (customer numbers: +1.7%; customer spend: +1.5%). In April, we opened no store and closed 4 stores.
Lawson is promoting the “Rilakkuma Spring Campaign” until June 13, 2016 to help broaden its customer base.
