The sales result of Lawson, Inc. is as follows. Total sales at all stores in November amounted to 172,388 million yen, a 5.1% up year on year. Existing-store sales increased 1.7% over the same period. Average daily sales per store (all stores) totaled 522 thousand yen, while the average number of customers per store (existing stores) fell 0.8% to 816, and the average customer spend at existing stores up 2.5% to 595 yen. The existing LAWSON stores’ sales in Japan*1 increased 1.6% in November.
Below is a breakdown of the existing-store sales performance by individual merchandise categories.

Thanks to special promotion, sandwich category performed extremely well in November.

Sales of delicatessen items increased drastically year on year, mainly due to increases in sales of soup series and gratin items.

Dessert sales increased year on year, thanks to TV advertisement of Christmas cake and favorable sales of its trial size.

Sales of bakery increased year on year, mainly due to a renewal of Bran Bread series and special promotion.

Sales of daily delivered food and frozen food items, which include our Lawson Select series, rose considerably year on year, due to discount sales. We have expanded product offering, and those initiatives contributed to this category sales as well.

Sales from our ice cream category rose considerably year on year in November, thanks to strong demand for new products.

Sales of soft drinks rose year on year in November, due to a promotion for Ponta members.

Sales of cigarette shaved approximately 0.5 point or less off existing-store sales growth in November.

The ticket sales including concerts, sporting events, etc., accounted for approximately 1.5 point or more increase year-on-year in existing-store sales in November.

The Lawson Group operated 12,839 convenience stores in Japan at the end of November 2016, including 139 NATURAL LAWSON stores and 799 LAWSON STORE100 stores.

Regarding LAWSON STORE 100, existing-store sales up 2.4% year on year in November (customer numbers: + 0.6%; customer spend: +1.8%). In November we opened 1 store and closed 1 store.

Lawson is promoting the “Rilakkuma Autumn Campaign” until December 12, 2016 and “Hello Kitty Winter Campaign” until March 6, 2017 to help broaden its customer base.

Lawson plans to announce its earnings results for 3Q of FY2016 on Wednesday, January 11, 2017. Summary of financial results and supplementary information will be posted on this website.

Note 1: Lawson, Inc. sales include sales generated by LAWSON stores (excluding Lawson Okinawa, Inc., Lawson Minami-Kyusyu, Inc., Lawson Kochi, Inc., and Lawson San’in Co., Ltd.), NATURAL LAWSON stores and LAWSON STORE100 stores. The LAWSON operation in Japan, equating to the non-consolidated performance disclosed up until January 2014, consists of sales generated by LAWSON, Inc. minus sales generated by LAWSON STORE100 stores.
