The sales result of Lawson, Inc. is as follows. Total sales at all stores in June amounted to 173,761 million yen, a 3.5% up year on year. Existing-store sales rose 3.1% over the same period. Average daily sales per store (all stores) totaled 547 thousand yen, while the average number of customers per store (existing stores) rose 1.4% to 870, and the average customer spend at existing stores rose 1.7% to 585 yen. The existing LAWSON stores’ sales in Japan*1 rose 3.3% in June.
Lawson had the 40th anniversary promotion in June. We launched different kinds of commemorative products, such as those with high quality raw materials, by the unique process of production, with fun-filled ideas, and others. We also run a promotional campaign such as “Sanrio Characters’ Campaign” and instant lottery.
Below is a breakdown of the existing-store sales performance by individual merchandise categories.
Thanks to some high value added lunch box products for the 40th anniversary, it rise in year-on-year sales of the rice food category in June.
Sales of ‘’Extra large size Karaage-kun” and ‘‘Genkotsu cheese menchi’’ (a fried minced meat ball with cheese) which celebrate our 40th year contributed to over-the-counter fast foods category. Sales of MACHI café, mainly café latte with revised reasonable price, and sales of doughnut also contributed to over-the-counter fast foods category.
With special product promotions to help expand its customer base, salad items and Lawson Select items gave a considerable boost to year-on-year sales of delicatessen category and daily foods category.
Sales of cigarette accounted for approximately 1 point of the year-on-year fall in existing-store sales in June.
The Lawson Group operated 12,078 convenience stores in Japan at the end of June 2015, including 107 NATURAL LAWSON stores and 865 LAWSON STORE100 stores.
Regarding LAWSON STORE 100, which has changed its strategy by restructuring its organization and by concentrating back on the low price merchandising, existing-store sales rose 0.5% year on year in June (customer numbers: +0.0%, customer spend: +0.5%). In June, we opened no store and closed 15 stores.
Lawson will promote the “Sanrio Characters’ Campaign” from June 16 to August 31.
