The sales result of Lawson, Inc. is as follows. Total sales at all stores in November amounted to 163,959 million yen, a 0.5% up year on year. Existing-store sales rose 0.5% over the same period. Average daily sales per store (all stores) totaled 513 thousand yen, while the average number of customers per store (existing stores) rose 0.3% to 819, and the average customer spend at existing stores rose 0.2% to 580 yen. The existing LAWSON stores’ sales in Japan*1 rose 0.2% in November.
Below is a breakdown of the existing-store sales performance by individual merchandise categories.
Sales across our rice food category expanded year on year in November, thanks to “100 yen sales promotion” of rice ball during a period of three consecutive national holidays. Chilled lunch boxes developed as “Passionate and Delicious” project also contributed to rice food category.
Both our delicatessen category including salad items and daily delivered food category with some Lawson Select series performed extremely well in November, thanks to some promotion like commercials on TV.
Over-the-counter fast food sales also expanded year on year in November, thanks to the expansion of number of stores operating donuts category and strong sales of MACHI café which we ran commercials on TV.
Our chilled beverage category saw sales rise year on year in November with the strong sales of NATURAL LAWSON brand’s cup type beverage.
On the flip side, the sharp fall in cigarette sales shaved approximately one point off existing-store sales growth in November.
The Lawson Group operated 12,228 convenience stores in Japan at the end of November 2015, including 122 NATURAL LAWSON stores and 814 LAWSON STORE100 stores.
Regarding LAWSON STORE 100, existing-store sales rose 4.5% year on year in November (customer numbers: +2.9%; customer spend: +1.5%). In November, we opened no store and closed 4 stores.
Lawson promoted the “Rilakkuma Autumn Campaign” from September 1 to November 30, and is now promoting the “Miffy Soup Bowl Present Campaign” from December 1 to March 7, 2016 to help broaden its customer base.
Lawson plans to announce its earnings results for the third quarter of fiscal year 2015 on Wednesday, January 13, 2016. Summary of financial results and supplementary information will be posted on this website.
