The sales result of Lawson, Inc. is as follows. Total sales at all stores in May amounted to 172,690 million yen, a 1.6% up year on year. Existing-store sales rose 1.2% over the same period. Average daily sales per store (all stores) totaled 528 thousand yen, while the average number of customers per store (existing stores) was the same as the previous year, 848, and the average customer spend at existing stores rose 1.2% to 578 yen. The existing LAWSON stores’ sales in Japan*1 rose 1.2% in May.

 

Below is a breakdown of the existing-store sales performance by individual merchandise categories.

 

Special product promotions in the evening and at night, redesigned salad items (launched in February) and pasta salad items gave a considerable boost to year-on-year sales of delicatessen category.

 

The special product promotions in the evening and at night also generated another rise in year-on-year sales of daily foods category especially Lawson Select items, which we renewed the package design.

 

Sales of MACHI café were continually well after changing of café latte’s price and sales of doughnut also contributed to over-the-counter fast foods category.

 

Sales of rice ball in the rice foods category, which we had “100 yen sales promotion” for the first time in 6 years, exceeded the amount in the previous year.

 

Sales of cigarette accounted for approximately 1 point of the year-on-year fall in existing-store sales in May.

 

The Lawson Group operated 12,066 convenience stores in Japan at the end of May 2015, including 118 NATURAL LAWSON stores and 884 LAWSON STORE100 stores.

 

Regarding LAWSON STORE 100, which has changed its strategy by restructuring its organization and by concentrating back on the low price merchandising, existing-store sales rose 1.1% year on year in May (customer numbers: -0.0%, customer spend: +1.2%). In May, we opened 1 store and closed 22 stores.

 

Lawson will promote the “Sanrio Characters’ Fair” from June 16 to August 31 to help broaden its customer base.

 

Lawson plans to announce its earnings results for the first quarter of fiscal year 2015 on Tuesday, July 7. Summary of financial results and supplementary information will be posted on this website.

 

 

Note 1: Lawson, Inc. sales include sales generated by LAWSON stores (excluding Lawson Okinawa, Inc., Lawson Minami-Kyusyu, Inc. and Lawson Kochi, Inc.), NATURAL LAWSON stores and LAWSON STORE100 stores. The LAWSON operation in Japan, equating to the non-consolidated performance disclosed up until January 2014, consists of sales generated by LAWSON, Inc. minus sales generated by LAWSON STORE100 stores.
