Total sales at all stores in January 2013 amounted to 160,570 million yen, 107.3% of the same period last year. Consolidated net sales of existing stores were 101.9% of the same period last year. Average daily sales per store (all stores) amounted to 501 thousand yen. The average number of customer per store (existing stores) was 791, 98.7% of the same period last year. The average spending per customer (existing stores) was 605 yen, 103.4% of the same period last year.
Existing store sales increased year-on-year for the first time in eight months.
Existing stores sales by merchandise category were as follows.
Sales of over-the-counter fast food category exceeded the previous year’s amount thanks to favorable sales of Oden (Japanese hot pot), delicatessen items and freshly-brewed coffee.
The delicatessen category exceeded the previous year’s amount. In particular, those categories recorded a significant year-on-year growth, prepared food and seasonal food such as gratin and rice casserole.
The perishable food category continued to experience significant sales growth thanks to the continued efforts to enhance the fresh food-type LAWSON stores. Particularly since October 30, 2012, when the company announced to “make all of the LAWSON stores with perishable food,” perishable food items became supported by the customers, and the sales of perishable food category, along with the sales of other related items, continued to exhibit a robust increase.
Large-scale events contributed to strong ticket sales, which enhanced robustness of existing store sales year-on-year.
Sales of cigarettes continued to decline below the amount of a year ago just as it did last month.
As of January 31, 2013, the Lawson Group had 11,152 stores in Japan, including 113 NATURAL LAWSON stores and 1,217 LAWSON STORE100 stores.
Existing store sales of Ninety-nine Plus, Inc. amounted to 97.0% of same period last year (number of customers: 95.2%; spending per customer: 101.9%). In January, Ninety-nine Plus, Inc. opened three stores and closed no store.
LASON and LAWSON STORE100 are running "the Miffy Dish Fair" from November 27, 2012 to February 25, 2013.
