Total sales for all stores in June 2011 were 158,462 million yen, a 10.5% increase year on year. Consolidated net sales for the existing stores increased 7.2% yoy. Average daily sales per stores (all stores) were 557 thousand yen. The average number of customers per store (existing stores) rose by 2.0% yoy, and average sales per customer (existing stores) grew 5.2% yoy to 563 yen.
Consolidated existing-store sales were negatively impacted by 1.5% points resulting from a decrease in ticket sales reflecting the absence of big concerts that had positive impacts a year ago.
Existing-store sales in the Tohoku region increased by approximately 20% yoy, led by demand related to reconstruction following the earthquake and tsunami of March 2011.
Sales of cigarettes increased by about 33% yoy. Sales of other products were also favorable, posting yoy growth.
Sales in the rice and noodles category grew significantly yoy, thanks to the product enhancement, initiatives, publicity impacts, and higher-than-normal temperatures. In particular, bakery sales showed a yoy growth for the first time in four months, thanks to favorable launch of a new brand called “Mom’s Kitchen.” Sales of noodles recorded a more than 15% increase, driven by the short pasta series.
Sales in the over-the-counter fast food category and the dessert category continued to increase greatly yoy. The average temperature hit a record high in late June, which contributed to a significant improvement in sales in the beverage and ice cream category from the previous month.
As of June 30, 2011, the LAWSON Group was comprised of 10,058 stores in Japan, including 91 NATURAL LAWSON, 1,082 LAWSON STORE 100 and 2 SHOP99.
Ninety-nine Plus Inc. operated a total of 1,084 stores, of which the number of new stores and closed stores were 19 and 3, respectively.
