Total sales for August 2010 were 157,221 million yen, up 1.5% year on year. Existing store sales on a consolidated basis increased 0.2% and average daily sales per store were 542 thousand yen. The average amount spent per customer was 546 yen, down 2.4% from the previous year, and the average number of customers per store per day was 965, up 2.7% year on year.
Sales for existing LAWSON STORE 100 stores were up 1.2% year on year. (The average amount spent per customer was down 2.6% from the previous year and the average number of customers per store per day was up 4.0% year on year.)
Sales in Tohoku region were well up on the previous year, whereas sales in Kansai and Kyushu regions were down.
Sales rose year on year in the ice cream and soft drinks categories, mainly because of a historic heat wave through the entire month.
Sales remained up from the previous year in the cooked noodles category, as cold noodles sold well, and efforts to strengthen pasta brands met with continued success.
Sales in the bakery category decreased year on year affected by the excessive heat wave.
The dessert category continued a significant increase in sales year on year, aided by strong sales of Uchi Cafe SWEETS product, Premium Roll Cake Series.
As of August 31, 2010, there were 9,860 stores in the LAWSON Group in Japan, including 91 NATURAL LAWSON stores, 929 LAWSON STORE100 stores and 79 SHOP99 stores.
Ninety-nine Plus Inc. opened 15 new stores and closed 13 store, bringing the total number of stores operated by this company to 1,008 stores.
In September, LAWSON will run a fall sales promotion, Rilakkuma Campaign that will start on September 14 through November 8.
