Total sales for all stores in February 2011 stood at 133,814 million yen, a 7.9% increase on a year-on-year basis. Consolidated net sales for the existing stores climbed 5.2% year on year. Average daily sales per stores (all stores) were 507 thousand yen. The average number of customers per store (existing stores) rose by 1.6% compared with the same month last year to 851, and average sales per customer (existing stores) grew 3.6% year on year, to 576 yen.
Net sales for the existing stores in the LAWSON STORE 100 chain increased 0.9% from the same period of the previous year, while the number of customers rose by 0.6% and sales per customer rose by 0.3%, respectively.
Sales of cigarettes increased by approximately 20%, showing an earlier-than-expected recovery. Sales of non-tobacco products continued to increase year on year.
Gross sales of tickets decreased over 1% as an adverse repercussion of the particularly strong sales recorded the same period of the previous year.
Sales in the rice dishes and noodles category were significantly higher than the same period of the previous year. Rice balls, including those made with the branded rice, Niigata-grown Koshihikari, enjoyed solid sales. The chilled lunch boxes line launched in January also contributed greatly to the growth in sales.
Sales in the over-the-counter fast food category continued to increase year on year. In particular, the L-Chiki fried chicken continued to make a great contribution to the growth in sales.
Sales in the dessert category shot up compared with the same period last year. Our original desserts continued to show an outstanding performance, driven by the favorable sales of the Premium Roll Cake Series, including the newly launched Brown Sugar Syrup and Soybean Powder Roll Cake, as well as our other Premium Series products.
As of February 28, 2011, the LAWSON Group was comprised of 9,994 stores in Japan, including 90 NATURAL LAWSON, 1044 LAWSON STORE 100 and 33 SHOP99.
Ninety-nine Plus Inc. operated a total of 1,077stores, of which the number of new stores and closed stores were 27 and 0, respectively.
LAWSON is running the Spring Rilakkuma Campaign from March 1 through May 9, 2011.
