Total sales for October 2009 were 146,830 million yen, down 2.8% year on year. Existing store sales on a consolidated basis decreased 5.5% (down 5.9% on a non-consolidated basis) and average daily sales per store were 503,000 yen. The average amount spent per customer was 542 yen, down 3.1%, and the average number of customers per store per day was 911, down 2.6%.

In the rice dishes category, sales were level with the previous month. Meanwhile sales in the desserts and bakery items categories, which had launched new brands, showed signs of improvement, exceeding last years sales.

From October we launched a new pasta brand, Pasta Ya as part of the Surprise Product Development Project. Pasta sales were greatly boosted by the launch of this product, which was able to offer plentiful toppings and sauce at a reasonable price thanks to bulk purchasing of raw ingredients.

The dessert category continued to see strong sales of the new brand of Uchi Cafe Sweets products, such as the Premium Whipped Cream Roll.

The bakery item category was boosted by its inclusion in the Fall Rilakkuma Fair campaign, with sales at existing stores exceeding those of last year.

As October 31, 2009, there were 9,665 stores in the LAWSON Group in Japan, including 93 NATURAL LAWSON stores, 778 LAWSON STORE100 stores and 166 SHOP99 stores.

In November LAWSON will launch sales of Onigiriya seventh-year anniversary products and Lawson Fair (instant prize draws, etc.) as well as continuing to accept orders for year-end gifts, Christmas cakes, printed New Year's greeting cards and traditional New Year's dishes.
