Total sales for November 2008 were 127,287 million yen, up 10.2% year on year. Existing store sales increased 8.6% and average daily sales per store were 506,000 yen. The average amount spent per customer was 582 yen, up 1.8%, and the average number of customers per store per day was 860, up 6.7%.
Rice dish sales continued to recover, driven mainly by rice balls. November saw the launch of Nihon wo Musubu Zoomusubi, a series of products developed from a tie-up with Zoom-In!! SUPER, a TV program aired by Nippon Television Network Corporation. More details on this collaboration can be found on this website (Japanese only).
The Fall Rilakkuma Fair campaign ended on November 3. Sales of products targeted by this campaign, however, continued to recover during the month, with the prepared breads, desserts, and bakery categories posting strong sales in November.
In the fast food category, LAWSON ran a sales promotion offering 20-yen discounts on Chinese steamed buns. This and other initiatives lifted category sales above the previous fiscal year for another month.
As of November 30, 2008, there were 9,442 stores in the LAWSON Group, including 93 NATURAL LAWSON stores, 399 LAWSON STORE100 stores (of which 329 are run by Ninety-nine Plus Inc.) and 509 SHOP99 stores.
On December 2, LAWSON began the Minna de Attama LAWSON Campaign. LAWSON is also accepting orders for Christmas cakes, printed New Year's greeting cards and traditional New Year's dishes. We hope you will come to our stores to purchase these products.
LAWSON plans to announce its third-quarter results for the fiscal year ending February 28, 2009 on Thursday, January 8, 2009. The earnings release and supplementary materials can be found on this website soon after their release.
