Total sales for October 2008 were 136,575 million yen, up 11.2% year on year. Existing store sales increased 9.4% and average daily sales per store were 524,000 yen. The average amount spent per customer was 578 yen, up 1.4%, and the average number of customers per store per day was 898, up 7.9%.
In the rice dishes category, sales were good on the back of a recovery in boxed lunch sales spurred by the launch of products developed with the assistance of university students and other new offerings.
In the counter fast food category, sales continued to increase year on year due to strong sales of new Lemon Flavor Karaage-kun crispy Japanese-style fried chicken (210 yen) and other products.
In prepared breads, bakery and other categories, existing store sales were up year on year thanks in part to the successful Fall Rilakkuma Fair campaign, which ended November 3.
The dessert category posted double-digit sales growth with boosts from both the Fall Rilakkuma Fair campaign and the re-launch of original desserts.
As of October 31, 2008, there were 9,427 stores in the LAWSON Group, including 93 NATURAL LAWSON stores, 341 LAWSON STORE100 stores (of which 271 are run by Ninety-nine Plus Inc.) and 559 SHOP99 stores.
