Total sales for May 2008 were 128,099 million yen, up 7.0% year on year. Existing store sales increased 5.6% and average daily sales per store were 493,000 yen. The average amount spent per customer was 586 yen, up 1.4%, and the average number of customers per store per day was 834, up 3.7%.
Sales were strong over the Japanese Golden Week holiday, helped by fair weather. After Golden Week, the cold and wet weather resulted in a downturn in sales in the Kanto area.
In the rice dishes category, existing store sales were on a par with the previous year. This was the result of brisk rice ball sales during Golden Week and a strong response to new products such as Hadaka no Taishou Shio Musubi Karaage Set (330 yen) and Gyaru Sone Oogui Challenge.
In the fast food, dessert and bakery items categories, existing store sales were all up year on year.
In June, LAWSON will run a tie-up campaign to coincide with the summer 2008 release of the new Naruto Shippuuden movie, including the launch of limited-edition original goods and instant-prize draws.
