Total sales for February 2009 were 114,613 million yen, up 4.0% year on year. Existing store sales increased 5.9% and average daily sales per store were 487,000 yen. The average amount spent per customer was 579 yen, down 1.5%, and the average number of customers per store per day was 833, up 7.4%.
Sales of chilled drinks and ice cream were strong, boosted by a series of warm days during the first half of the month.
Sales in the prepared breads and cooked noodles categories were strong.
In the fast food category, sales continued to trend upward year on year as a result of product launches such as Karaage-kun Ebi Chili, produced as a tie-up with the Dragonball Z animation series.
The dessert category posted year-on-year sales growth thanks to a Chocolate Fair and strong performance by products such as the Setsubun Roll, launched for Setsubun no Hi, a holiday in February that marks the official end of winter.
LAWSON launched the Spring Rilakkuma Fair on March 3. In addition to offering LAWSON limited-edition Rilakkuma products, we are running a sales campaign where customers can collect and exchange point stickers attached to selected products for Rilakkuma plates. Customers can continue to accumulate point stickers through May 6.
As of February 28, 2009, there were 9,527 stores in the LAWSON Group, including 93 NATURAL LAWSON stores, 487 LAWSON STORE100 stores (of which 415 are run by Ninety-nine Plus Inc.) and 438 SHOP99 stores.
