Total sales for June 2007 were 121,713 million yen, unchanged year on year. Existing store sales declined 3.1% and average daily sales per store were 484,000 yen. The average amount spent per customer was 570 yen, down 1.8%, and the average number of customers per store per day was 846, down 1.4%.
There was an approximate 3point decline in existing store sales from June 2006 when sales were boosted by a rush of demand for cigarettes ahead of a tax hike. This effect will also be seen partly in July results because sales booked after 13:30 on June 30, 2006, the final day before the tax hike took effect, were recorded in July; LAWSON closes its books at 13:30 each day.
By area, sales were strong in Hokkaido and major metropolitan areas, particularly the Kanto region, due to the positive effects of good weather on sales. However, sales struggled in Tohoku, Shikoku, Chugoku and other regions.
The cooked noodles and ice cream categories performed strongly in June, buoyed by fine weather, especially in Eastern Japan.
From June 5 to June 11, LAWSON ran the Toku-uma sales fair, followed by the Natsu ni Mukatte! Nebanebaokoku campaign from June 19 to June 30. Sales of products related to these sales promotions were strong.
In July, LAWSON will use the Miffy point collection campaign and continue to strengthen merchandise assortments based on store charts (analysis of individual store information) to increase customer numbers and expand the customer base.
As of June 30, 2007, in addition to our nationwide network of regular LAWSON stores, we had 109 NATURAL LAWSON and 70 LAWSON STORE100 stores.
LAWSON announced its business results for the first quarter of the current fiscal year on Wednesday, July 4. The flash report and other related information can be found on this web site.
