The sales result of Lawson, Inc. in July is as follows*1. Total sales at all stores in July amounted to 208,558 million yen, a 8.8 % down year on year, and average daily sales per store (all stores) totaled 487 thousand yen*2.
Existing-store sales (excluding ticket and gift card sales etc.) decreased 8.9% year on year over the same period and the average number of customers per store fell 15.1% and the average customer spend rose 7.3% year on year.

In July, the number of people infected with COVID-19 became conspicuous, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government issued a request to refrain from going out, which heightened social alertness. In addition to long-term heavy rain over a wide area from western Japan to eastern Japan, the end of the rainy season was delayed compared to the usual year, affecting the store visits.

Below is a breakdown of the existing-store sales performance by individual merchandise categories.

Sales in the dessert category increased f year-on-year due to of the new-style sweets, which we are continuously working on product development, and the popularity of summer version of “CUPKE (cake in a cup) “ in Uchi Café original desserts, released on July 7. Sales of products such as frozen foods, Chuhai (a shochu-based beverage), etc., whose sales increased due to consumption from staying at home, continued to be strong in July and exceeded year- on-year. Sales of fresh foods, which we are working to expand our product lineup by selling vegetable sets, etc., increased significantly year-on-year. Sales of paper and sanitary goods increased significantly year-on-year, mainly for masks with a well-developed supply system.

Cigarette sales accounted for approximately 1.0 point decrease year on year of existing-store sales growth in June.

The Lawson Group operated 14,491 convenience stores in Japan at the end of July 2020, including 147 NATURAL LAWSON stores and 688 LAWSON STORE 100 stores. The existing LAWSON stores' sales in Japan (LAWSON and NATURAL LAWSON)*1 decreased 9.1% year on year.

In the Entertainment-related Business, in addition to tickets for leisure facilities and concerts, we are engaged in handling viewing tickets for live streaming of famous artists.

As an initiative to expand our customer base and provide enjoyment to customers, we started collecting stamps and smartphone lottery campaigns of popular characters, etc., and which were well received.

From July 1, as part of efforts to protect the global environment, it has become mandatory to pay for plastic plastic shopping bags nationwide. Based on this, Lawson will provide plastic bags for 3 yen each, and we will work to reduce the amount of plastic by changing the plastic shopping bag to a specification that contains 30% plant-based materials.
LAWSON, NATURAL LAWSON, and LAWSON STORE 100 stores accepted donations for victims of "Heavy rains of July, 2020". We will support the recovery and reconstruction of the disaster area as soon as possible.
