The sales result of Lawson, Inc. is as follows. Total sales at all stores in July amounted to 189,471 million yen, a 2.6% up year on year. Existing-store sales rose 2.3% over the same period. Average daily sales per store (all stores) totaled 575 thousand yen, while the average number of customers per store (existing stores) rose 0.7% to 888, and the average customer spend at existing stores rose 1.6% to 602 yen. The existing LAWSON stores’ sales in Japan*1 rose 2.4% in July.
Below is a breakdown of the existing-store sales performance by individual merchandise categories.
Sales of rice food category gained over the previous year’s level. “100 yen sales promotion” of rice ball and a newly launched lunch box, which we reviewed the food materials, the recipe and the taste, contributed to the category.
Thanks to special product promotion, salad items gave a considerable boost to year-on-year sales of delicatessen category.
Strong sales of Lawson Select items contributed to daily foods category.
Sales of doughnut and MACHI café were continually well, and sale in “Karaage-kun” fried chicken also helped boost sales of over-the-counter fast foods category.
The sharp fall in cigarette sales accounted for approximately 1 point or so of the year-on-year fall in existing-store sales in July.
The Lawson Group operated 12,142 convenience stores in Japan at the end of July 2015, including 108 NATURAL LAWSON stores and 843 LAWSON STORE100 stores.
Regarding LAWSON STORE 100, which has changed its strategy by restructuring its organization and by concentrating back on the low price merchandising, existing-store sales rose 0.7% year on year in July (customer numbers: -1.3%; customer spend: +2.0%). In July, we opened no store and closed 12 stores.
Lawson is promoting the “Sanrio Characters’ Campaign” from June 16 to August 31 to help broaden its customer base.
