The sales result of Lawson, Inc. is as follows. Total sales at all stores in October amounted to 181,552 million yen, a 4.1% up year on year. Existing-store sales rose 3.9% over the same period. Average daily sales per store (all stores) totaled 548 thousand yen, while the average number of customers per store (existing stores) rose 3.9% to 880, and the average customer spend at existing stores rose 0.0% to 578 yen. The existing LAWSON stores’ sales in Japan*1 rose 3.7% in October.

Lawson had the 40th anniversary promotion (second round) in October. We launched different kinds of commemorative products such as “Grilled Iberico Pork Lunch Box” and “Mont-Blanc Cake with Japanese Chestnut”, with high quality raw materials, by the unique process of production. We also ran a promotional campaign of instant lottery.

Below is a breakdown of the existing-store sales performance by individual merchandise categories.

Sales across our rice food category expanded year on year in October, thanks to “100 yen sales promotion” of rice ball during a period of three consecutive national holidays. Products for the 40th anniversary with commercials on TV also contributed to rice food category.

Both our delicatessen and daily delivered food categories performed extremely well in October, generating significant year on year gains. Salad sales contributed to delicatessen category, thanks to special product promotion, and strong sales of Lawson Select items helped boost the daily delivered food category.

Over-the-counter fast food sales also expanded year on year in October, thanks to consistently strong sales of MACHI café, the expansion of number of stores operating donuts category, and the successful promotion of our fried food items.

Sales of our dessert category rose year on year in October, thanks to special product promotion and running commercials on TV.

Our soft drink category and chilled beverage category saw sales rise year on year in October with the strong promotion and the good sales of Natural Lawson brand’s “Green Smoothie”.

Cigarette sales had almost no impact on existing-store sales in October.

The Lawson Group operated 12,206 convenience stores in Japan at the end of October 2015, including 118 NATURAL LAWSON stores and 818 LAWSON STORE100 stores.

Regarding LAWSON STORE 100, existing-store sales rose 5.4% year on year in October (customer numbers: +4.6%; customer spend: +0.7%). In October, we opened no store and closed 1 store.

Lawson is promoting the “Rilakkuma Autumn Campaign” from September 1 to November 30 to help broaden its customer base.


Note 1: Lawson, Inc. sales include sales generated by LAWSON stores (excluding Lawson Okinawa, Inc., Lawson Minami-Kyusyu, Inc. and Lawson Kochi, Inc.), NATURAL LAWSON stores and LAWSON STORE100 stores. The LAWSON operation in Japan, equating to the non-consolidated performance disclosed up until January 2014, consists of sales generated by LAWSON, Inc. minus sales generated by LAWSON STORE100 stores.
